You are not going to find many boots with a look that is as classic as the all new Adidas adiPure IV SL. Adidas make the release even better by turning it into a super lightweight package – 7oz of raw speed! What you are getting:A soft K-Leather upper that oozes a classic heritage look. Adidas use a Sprint Frame soleplate, the same one used on the adiZero range, in order to reduce the overall weight of the boot. Strategically positioned stitching on the upper to ensure they move more naturally with your movements. The tongue is well padded, making them ideal for striking shots. X-Static silver threads stitching is used for its antimicrobial, all natural, heat transfer, anti-static and has therapeutic benefits. Kevlar laces are also included. Breaking In and ComfortUnlike the adiPure IV release, the SL takes slightly longer to break-in. They don't quiet mold to your feet in a quick fashion, which is probably related to how the leather upper and Sprint Frame soleplate function together. Trying to match leather with lightweight is not an easy thing to do. I initially took them in to training sessions, but quickly found they needed more time, so I started to use them for running sessions. After a few days, they were primed and ready to start game action. Since then, the leather upper has become super soft and completely molded to my exact specifications. My advice is to expect and adjust to a slow break-in period.PerformanceCombining a lightweight boot with a soft K-Leather upper matches the exact requirements I have for a perfect boot, and Adidas pull it off magnificently well. Touch and control feel fantastic and the leather upper easily starts to mold to your required fit. There is not a great deal of technology included, but it is more about the simplicity of the release that makes them appealing. One of my favorite aspects is the tongue, which Adidas has added a little extra padding to. This turns them into a great boot for striking shots, and I found them to be very effective in-game. It also adds a little extra protection, in case defenders decide they want to test out a pair.DesignIs there a more classic, yet modern, looking release on the market to date? This Black/White/Metallic Gold just oozes quality. The black upper combined with gold detailing just works so well, especially the gold text that runs along the outside of the boot. I also like how the tips of the studs are also featured in the gold colorway. They definitely have the "whoa" factor, as I experienced every time one of my teammates saw them for the first time. SizingI recommend going true to size. I wore a size 9US (my regular size) and they fit fantastically well, with a little extra space up top for maneuverability. If you have space in your current size, a half size down might be worth considering. They are suited for those with a medium width, although the leather upper will stretch to ensure players who need a wider fit have an opportunity to wear them.Summing upThis is a great release from Adidas and I just love how they have successfully paired a classic boot with a lightweight feel. You will need to spend some additional time breaking them in to ensure that you are getting an effective boot, but once they feel right, you are getting a boot that performs at the highest level. There has also been a White version of this series released that might be worth checking out if you want something with a little more pop. Also, as reference, the box they come in includes Adidas leather food, a cleaning cloth and a pretty sweet boot bag.
